Behind the ANDY Wheel with Georges M.

Why did you get involved in this field?

Traveling, exploring new landscapes, and having unique experiences captivated me and have allowed me to learn and grow. The sense of freedom on the road plays a significant role in my personal development. The balance between job security and the benefits provided has also been a crucial consideration.

Could you describe a day in your life as a truck driver?

I start each day by conducting safety checks on the truck. Following that, my day is spent on the road delivering goods, managing logistics, and performing basic maintenance on my equipment.

What are the most rewarding aspects of your job?

The autonomy and the variety of landscapes are rewarding. There's nothing quite like the feeling of safely delivering goods; it's an unparalleled satisfaction.

What misconceptions do people have of truck drivers?

Many believe it's a solitary and boring job, it's actually a dynamic and collaborative profession.

Have you faced any challenges as a truck driver?

The challenges mainly involve long hours behind the wheel, challenging weather conditions, and occasionally tight deadlines. In those situations, you must adapt yourself.

Do you have any anecdotes or memorable moments from your career that you'd like to share?

The diversity, job stability, and unique opportunity to discover new places.

How do you manage long periods away from your family and loved ones as a truck driver? Do you have strategies to maintain strong connections despite the distance?

Time at home may vary, but regular communication, whether by phone or video, is essential to maintaining strong bonds. Thankfully, my dispatchers know how to manage routes efficiently, allowing me to come back to sleep at home frequently.

Apart from truck driving, what are your favorite passions or hobbies?

Basketball and swimming.

How have you made your truck a place that evokes a sense of home?

Personal touches, like a cozy interior, have turned my truck into a welcoming space.

Favourite places to drive?

The stunning routes that wind through mountains and along the coasts are my favorites. They offer breathtaking views.

Favourite meal?

I enjoy simple, homemade meals, like a good sandwich, they're my favorite.

What would you never leave without in your truck?

My emergency kit, essential tools, and memories from my travels. My emergency kit is crucial for any situation on the road and indispensable tools are always with me to address minor technical issues. But what truly makes my truck special are the memories I keep inside it. Objects that tell stories from my past journeys, small reminders of the places I've been and the experiences I've had.
